WHAT IS SOY

What is soy?

Soy (Glysine max) is a subtropical perennial legume that comes from China. Soy is characterized by a high protein and oil content in the bean.

 

A particular feature of the soy because it's a legume is that it can bind nitrogen from the air in order to meet the nutritional needs of the plant.

Soy is the only protein plant which contains all 8 essential amino acids.

The bean is rich in unsaturated fatty acids and contains no cholesterol. Soy is also rich in vitamins and minerals.

 

The beans are used for many products including soy sauce, soybean and tofu wich are the most well known products.

Soy however is already used in a lot of pre-packaged foods used in the form of soybean meal, soybean oil or soy protein.

 

The soybean meal that remains when you remove the oil from the soybean is a major source of protein in the feed sector. Milk and meat are therefore indirectly established with soy.

 

In short, a versatile plant with many uses and soy is also be part of a gluten-free diet. Thats why In China, this plant is used for food and medicine over the last noth 5,000 years.
