DUTCHSOY HAS EXCLUSIVE SOY VARIETIES FROM JAPAN
DutchSoy starts a grand Edamame Project in 2017 where we tests the top soybean varieties from Japan. Goal is to grow fresh soybeans in the Netherland and Europe.

With these varieties we want to test to determine which varieties perform the best to make edamame in Dutch conditions.
We have 4 varieties this year directly imported from Japan, because the edamame is of Japanees origin and so they have a the most experience with edamame varieties.
In 2016, we conducted a test to see if the Edamame could be mechanically harvested and it worked, so now we make to further steps to develop the project.
Below left is a photo of the experimental plot of edamame (Korean race Black) PPO Lelystad. Right shows an impression of the mechanical harvesting of the beans.
In 2017 the next six varieties undergo testing for yield, growth, harvest time and taste.

The upper 2 varieties give a black bean and the rest a green. We're going to sow 50 cm between the rows and leave 3 meters in between because we need to be able to harvest the varieties on diverend moments depending on ther growth.

HEALTHY SIDE DISH, LIGHT SNACK: EDAMAME
Beautiful green pea pods, sprinkled with a little salt. Edamame is not only a healthy side dish, but also a nice light snack. Or a protein-rich addition to your salads.
Eda in Japanese means branch, mame his beans. Edamame are literally "beans on a branch. They are young, immature legumes Soy plant. These are harvested before the pods have been given the chance to harden.
Green pod itself is stringy and not to eat, but on the inside you can find three or four green, edible beans. They look a bit like peas or green beans and tastes nutty.
Protein, iron, and fibers
Edamameboontjes have a high nutritional value. They are rich in protein, iron, omega-3 fatty acids and calcium, and therefore an ideal vegetable for vegetarians and vegans. In addition, there are lots of fiber and vitamins A and C in. In 100 grams of edamame contains about 120 calories, so a bowl of beans is a slim snack.
Edamame durable with DutchSoy
Edamame is now mainly available at (Asian) supermarkets, health food stores and Asian shops. You'll find they are usually frozen in the freezer, in a pocket of a pound, complete with pod or already peeled. Sometimes there 'frozen soy beans' on the package instead of edamame.
At this time, Edamame is imported mainly. With Edamame Project DutchSoy we want to make sure that Edamame is also really durable and only GMO-free, grown in our own country and / or elsewhere in Europe.
Want to eat edamame as a snack or side dish? Let the pod to sit around the beans and thaw them out. Cook the frozen edamame for a few minutes in salted water or steam the beans. Then let them scare under cold water, drain and pat dry with possibly some kitchen paper. Sprinkle to taste with sea salt and / or pepper over it and they are ready for use.
Push the beans with your finger from the pod or put your teeth in and ris the beans out. After cooking edamame two days in the refrigerator.
Are you going to process the beans in a dish? Then peeled, frozen beans easier. You can take a dip, but they also taste good by (noodle) salad. Or choke the husked beans in a little butter and eat them just like vegetables.
